Dad is traveling yet again

  • Posted on March 25, 2010 at 10:51 pm

For the third time this year, Frida and I are left alone for a week. While Frida was talking to her dad on Skype today I showed her the picture below so it would be more clear to her who she was talking to. Or, rather, her dad was talking to her, she mostly pointed at the laptop screen!

I showed her this picture because it was the first one I found, but I didn’t find it very interesting.  The more I looked at the picture, however, the more it grew on me. I like the way they both look at whatever he’s pointing at. Also, I like how it reminds me of the birthday party we were at, how he carried her in his arms most of the time because she was lost in a room full of people and because she wasn’t feeling very well (she became sick the following day). Also, the way that she holds her fingers against the back of her ear is something she does from time to time. The expression on her face is a typical mixture of curiosity and skepticism, pointing at whatever her dad’s showing her. And finally, you can see how much they still look alike!

The following picture from the same party has some of the same “I feel lost among all these people, save me”-feeling.

Walking vs sitting

Frida’s walking! For a month or two she’s been courageous enough to take a few steps here and there, but these past couple of days she’s walked long distances – as long as they can get within our living room. You should see the smile on her face when she proudly walks between the two of us, it looks something like the picture below left. The picture on the right shows how much she still concentrates while executing her new skill!

The other member of my family usually prefers sitting to walking. I recently sold my first item on finn.no (a desk), so that we could fit in an enormous chair that I got on sale a few months ago. I love the chair, but E … well, let’s just say that I paid for the chair myself :) That’s why I was so amused when the first one to sit down and enjoy the new part of our living room was him! Looking at the picture below, I’d say he looks quite comfy.

A red cat and a red hat

  • Posted on March 17, 2010 at 10:35 pm

For my niece’s birthday I made a red cat from three knitted squares. The pattern is in Swedish, and I found a lot of help in a Swedish-English knitting translation. I also knitted a larger white cat, but finished it at about 1 am so I never got to take a picture before I gave it away to my friend’s newborn baby boy.

I let Frida play with the red cat to see if it was any good as a toy, and I must say it wasn’t an immediate hit… My niece has two beautiful cats, and I was hoping this red cat would give them some rest from a one-year-old’s curious hands!

As I mentioned, Frida wasn’t too keen on the red cat, but she has a red hat that she loves to put on. It’s a hand-me-down from a friend who gave us bags of clothes that her two daughters have used. Who needs a new hat when she can have this one? :)

Buttery sweet

Turnes out somebody looooves butter! During this Saturday’s breakfast Frida got full access to butter, and I think this may have made her day!

Happy birthday!

Birthday & Mother’s Day & Valentine’s Day

  • Posted on February 18, 2010 at 12:36 am

This Sunday was my birthday, Mother’s day and Valentine’s day, all in one day. I know at least one person who was happy he got away with buying one present this year! I must admit that I didn’t mind getting one present; it was a trip to Reykjavik, Iceland this spring! The trip comes with two travel companions – seems like E had already decided it wasn’t gonna be a romantic weekend for two in the name of Valentine :) I really don’t mind, though, as they’re good friends of ours!

F’s been in great shape these past weeks, and Saturday at my cousin’s house was no exception:

When daddy’s away

Daddy’s been away on a business trip for almost a week now. Of course we miss him (he reads this…!), but we’re both pleased to have things our way for a while :D

New year, new lens, new pics of Frida

  • Posted on January 13, 2010 at 11:30 pm

For Christmas, E got me a new lens for my camera. I tried it out when Frida was taking a bath and brushing her teeth, and here are a couple of the pictures I took. Considering I used no flash in poor lighting and the fact that she wouldn’t sit still, I’d say some of them turned out pretty good!

A new year

As usual, December has been an eventful month. Lots of celebration, joy and happiness, but also room for thought with a death in near family. Very sad, although not unexpected.

Frida has really enjoyed December. It only took her a couple of days of advent calendar to learn how to open presents (almost) on her own!

The first party of the month was at our place, a late 1 year birthday celebration for the 5 other November babies we’ve spent so much time with in 2009. In true Christmas spirit, Frida shared her bread with one of her little friends. (Isn’t that what it looks like on the picture? What actually happened was that she stole the bread that he was eating…)

Daddy’s birthday was celebrated with much enthusiasm – maybe not so much by thebirthday boy, but Frida didn’t even have to be asked to help opening the presents! I suspect she thought it was part of her advent calendar :) All the attention from four grandparents was just a bonus.

The 13th day of the month is in the name of Saint Lucia, and Frida’s kindergarden did the mandatory celebration. She was of course the most adorable in the crowd, and we all brought our cameras to take her picture.

The kindergarden also hosted a Santa party one of the last days before Christmas. Dress code: red! On the menu: Christmas rice porridge!

Aunt M and uncle Ø weren’t able to be here for Christmas, so they came for a visit the week before. Frida was very happy to see them, but missed her cousin Nanok, the giant dog. Well, to be honest I don’t think she missed him at all, the last time she saw him she started crying whenever he barked… :)

Aunt S and cousin Stellatronic were here all Christmas, and we got to spend a lot of time with them.

My sister and I had a challenging afternoon trying to take a picture of the two cousins… together…both facing the camera… not crying… You get the picture :) This is what we ended up using for the month of December in the 2010 calendar we made for our parents:

I hope you all had a great Christmas, and that the new year will bring lots of joy!

Back to work…

Tomorrow is the last day of my maternity leave. I’m excited to start my new job (at Verdande Technology), but at the same time I’m very sad that an exciting year is over!

We’ve gone from just smiling

to grasping toys

to raising upper body

It’s now up to Espen to make sure she walks. He’s got 7 weeks of paternity leave to make it happen…
