Happy b-day to the star of the family
Birthday & Mother’s Day & Valentine’s Day
This Sunday was my birthday, Mother’s day and Valentine’s day, all in one day. I know at least one person who was happy he got away with buying one present this year! I must admit that I didn’t mind getting one present; it was a trip to Reykjavik, Iceland this spring! The trip comes with two travel companions – seems like E had already decided it wasn’t gonna be a romantic weekend for two in the name of Valentine
I really don’t mind, though, as they’re good friends of ours!
F’s been in great shape these past weeks, and Saturday at my cousin’s house was no exception:
When daddy’s away
Daddy’s been away on a business trip for almost a week now. Of course we miss him (he reads this…!), but we’re both pleased to have things our way for a while
- We play inside the closet - there's plenty of room now that daddy's shoes are in the US!
- We sit on the floor thinking about what to do next.
- We take a ride on great grandma's walking device.
- We take the stroller for a walk outside.
- We spend time outside in the swing.
- We throw Dreamtheater CDs on the floor.
- We throw macaroni in the air.
- We eat healthy food - no, that's not sausage...
- We play on the couch.
- In the morning, we play as much as we want in bed.
- We practice walking. Still not letting go of whatever she holds on to :)
- We play hide and seek in the bathroom.
- But of course we'd rather have him here :)
New year, new lens, new pics of Frida
A new year
As usual, December has been an eventful month. Lots of celebration, joy and happiness, but also room for thought with a death in near family. Very sad, although not unexpected.
Frida has really enjoyed December. It only took her a couple of days of advent calendar to learn how to open presents (almost) on her own!
The first party of the month was at our place, a late 1 year birthday celebration for the 5 other November babies we’ve spent so much time with in 2009. In true Christmas spirit, Frida shared her bread with one of her little friends. (Isn’t that what it looks like on the picture? What actually happened was that she stole the bread that he was eating…)
Daddy’s birthday was celebrated with much enthusiasm – maybe not so much by thebirthday boy, but Frida didn’t even have to be asked to help opening the presents! I suspect she thought it was part of her advent calendar
All the attention from four grandparents was just a bonus.
The 13th day of the month is in the name of Saint Lucia, and Frida’s kindergarden did the mandatory celebration. She was of course the most adorable in the crowd, and we all brought our cameras to take her picture.
The kindergarden also hosted a Santa party one of the last days before Christmas. Dress code: red! On the menu: Christmas rice porridge!
Aunt M and uncle Ø weren’t able to be here for Christmas, so they came for a visit the week before. Frida was very happy to see them, but missed her cousin Nanok, the giant dog. Well, to be honest I don’t think she missed him at all, the last time she saw him she started crying whenever he barked…
Aunt S and cousin Stellatronic were here all Christmas, and we got to spend a lot of time with them.
My sister and I had a challenging afternoon trying to take a picture of the two cousins… together…both facing the camera… not crying… You get the picture
This is what we ended up using for the month of December in the 2010 calendar we made for our parents:
I hope you all had a great Christmas, and that the new year will bring lots of joy!
Back to work…
Tomorrow is the last day of my maternity leave. I’m excited to start my new job (at Verdande Technology), but at the same time I’m very sad that an exciting year is over!
We’ve gone from just smiling
to grasping toys
to raising upper body
to sitting in the high chair
to standing on two feet
to showing how tall she is
It’s now up to Espen to make sure she walks. He’s got 7 weeks of paternity leave to make it happen…
Highlights of July 2009
I just realized today that July is almost over, here are some highlights.
Frida’s cousin came to town, so we’ve spent some time with her. This means that Frida has had to share her toys, and they seem to get along very well – even though Frida with her 8 months could easily take down 4 months old Stellatronic!
Throwing up on the couch is fun. As long as one gets to look at it for two seconds and then rub both hands in it.
Everyday activities include eating in the high chair and standing up in the couch. By the way, the couch is an excellent place to show off two teeth that are emerging.
We’ve had some great weather: at the veranda, at Bratlia (my parent’s vacation house) and at a local coffee shop…
Frida has learned how to climb. For some reason the dishwasher is one of the most exciting toys at the moment. Of course, all toys have to be tasted!
Manduca is the new Tricot Slen
In preparation for our summer vacation in France, I recently bought a Manduca. For those of you who don’t know, it’s a baby carrier. Frida is getting too heavy for the Tricot Slen, which is a long elastic wrap. Besides, as it covers the upper body, it’s warmer to wear – something we don’t need at the Riviera with 25-30 Celsius…
Life as mom’s iPhone sees it
Frida still looks like her dad!
Frida’s first flight went to Oslo. She seemed to like it and slept almost the whole time. In Oslo she was happy to make a new friend.
When we got back she had her operation. She even got a diploma for being a good girl after waking up from general anaesthesia!
Her just-woke-up-face in the morning is always cute.
Find Wally… eh, I mean, find Frida!
Playing with dad, looking in the mirror.
Strolling by the water in beautiful spring weather.
Ready for skiing in Easter break!
First time facing forward in the Tricot-slen wrap.
Frida’s hairy crazy cousin.
Not really liking the pacifier too much.
Making a new friend… or maybe not!
New spring outfit – knit by grandma Brit.
Dad’s home alone with the baby while mom’s…
At the coffee shop with grandma and grandpa.
Her favorite toy is a yellow thingy.
Always happy in the wrap. Not so in the baby carriage…
Surprised look
Why the surprised look on Frida’s face? Well, I celebrated my birthday Feb 14 and invited a few friends over for dinner. I guess she was wondering why I got some of the attention – she’s usually the center of attention!!
By the way, Frida was an angel all day, sleeping while I prepared dinner and charming the guests after they arrived. She politely stayed awake to see the last couple leave after 1 am…
